How does a countdown timer work?
A countdown continuously subtracts the current time from a fixed target moment and splits the difference into days, hours, minutes and seconds. Because the target is fixed rather than a running stopwatch, the countdown stays correct even if the page is closed and reopened.
Accuracy comes from your device clock, which modern systems sync via NTP to within fractions of a second — more than enough for launches, exams and deadlines.

- The display stops, but because the countdown is based on your target date, reopening the page and starting it again shows the correct remaining time.
- How accurate is the timer?
- It updates every second and is based on your device clock, so it is as accurate as your system time.
- Can I count down to a time in another time zone?
